Research confirms that overusing technology can have an impact on everything from sleep and relationships to productivity and self-esteem. We’re sharing a few ideas for how to disconnect for your well-being—so you can be more present for both yourself and the people, places and things around you.

Take control of how you receive information and alerts

That means unsubscribing from unwanted emails, maybe switching off your vibration alert or opting out of notifications. That way, you check your phone when you want to, rather than reaching for it every time it buzzes.

Cleanse your content consumption regularly

Take a social media break

Try cutting out your most-used platforms for a week. Switch off notifications and give yourself a 7-day cleanse from posting, liking and commenting.

Go dark after dark

Try turning off all of your tech a few hours before bedtime. Not only is it better for your sleep, but it also opens up your night for reading, spending time with your partner or channeling your creativity.

Connect with a friend

Sometimes we just need to sink into a conversation with those we vibe with. Light a candle, grab a few snacks and get real about what’s on your mind.
